Earning a Black Belt
A black belt is awarded after the complete curriculum has been learned, from white belt to red belt.
It may take from three to four years depending on each individual's efforts. However, at Jun Chong Tae Kwon Do it is not enough to have knowledge of the technical aspect of martial arts. We hope to have instilled in our black belts a sense of responsibility and respect to others.
A cocky and belligerent attitude is out of place in our dojang. Jun Chong Tae Kwon Do reserves the right to expel any student, black belt or not, whose attitude is out of harmony with the principles of respect and sportsmanship.
- Once a student is promoted to first gup of red belt, he or she becomes a black belt candidate.
- A black belt candidate must accumulate 50 hours of student teaching before the test, under the supervision of an instructor.
- The black belt test involves dozens of techniques, some of them very physically demanding, some requiring high mental concentration, while others test reflexes and physical fitness.
Grandmaster Chong has taught for over 30 years and his system has proven to be an excellent all around method of teaching martial arts and to promote health and self confidence .
